Aliza Karu makes me want to read. The Angels and Demons creator is collaborating with Libriamo Tutti to celebrate a different book each month. This month’s Booklook is inspired by Haruki Murakami’s 1Q84, which I now want to read. Ms. Karu’s gorgeous ensemble includes miniature versions of the two moons that shine over Murakami’s Tokyo. In this ensemble, they float over an av’s shoulder, set off by a transparent train that rises up instead of trailing behind. Check out Callie Oh’s classic pic for a better sense of the whole look.
I suspect that this is a wedding gown, but given my recent complaints about men, I choose to see Portia as some kind of wintry vengeance demon. A scorned woman’s wish is her command.

Hey lady!

The Aquarius Zodiac month ends on the 13th, so you should surf over there soon if you want a nifty mermaid bra by Brutus Martinek of Pididdle. JesyLilo’s loose-fit jeans feature portholes on the outside of each leg. Why I do not know. Perhaps to show off a tattooed tangle of kelp.

Meanwhile, back on shore, Sopha Portal has released a new skin called Vivian. As with her other recent skins, Vivian is available in a pack with eight soft and sweet makeups. Six of these feature orange-red lips, and two, including the one I’m showing here, run to pink. I tend to think I don’t like anything named after a princess or a lapdog, but Aranel Ah’s Tiffany colour makes BOOM’s beautifully sculpted, nubbly textured Duveteux Rayonnant jacket absolutely irresistible. As far as I’m concerned, Ms. Ah has the all clear for Savannah and Felicity.

Tatas tutorial

Like me, you probably love your new Tangos falsies from Lola’s. The bustline is too too divine. But the breasts are so large that the average av’s proportions are thrown way out of whack. As an experienced blogger, I am qualified to guide you through the steps to getting those proportions back into whack. If you follow this tutorial, you won’t waste your time making your av’s shoulders wider, adding body fat or enlarging the hips and thighs. The simplest strategy is to plop on some giant cartoon hair and teleport immediately to a Manhattan-style sim. New York’s skyscrapers dwarf even the giantest bazooms. (This is why most movies are made in Hollywood.) Once you have her installed in NYC, clothe your av in something tight and short, and then slip on a pair of sturdy not-human legs. Your av is now a superheroine and her breasts are a metaphor for her power. (You may actually have to enlarge your Lola’s to convince people of your av’s superness. Check recent Wonder Woman covers for ideas.)

Now that your av is a superheroine, you can buy that utility belt you’ve always wanted. The idea is to balance out your av’s front-mounted falsies with something just as big for her backside. A couple of mangey kitten criminals in a fanny pack will improve the proportions and demonstrate that your superheroine is indeed cleaning up Gotham. If anyone asks about the bottle of milk she’s using for evil-feline-bait, just tell him that your av was bitten by a radioactive dairy cow. He’ll imagine the consequences. In vivid detail.

Comedy of errors

SL wanted things its way today. I’d heard nothing more about the Trilogy 1940s pinup contest, and I’d also realized that without Photoshop, I couldn’t make a good photo anyway. I decided I might as well join the mob at Phoenix Rising, but SL dumped me into the drink when the TP failed. The water was wonderfully empty and undemanding, and I didn’t need to wait for anything to rez or click on the right square. So I opted to relax and play pinup off the coast of Chile SL, using the Trilogy poses that Purveyors of Accidental Love sent out earlier this week.

An Asian pinup for 1940s America? A Victorian jacket and some cat’s ears? Why the hell not? If you’re shooting pinups underwater you might as well throw in some turf with the surf. (That metaphor may not be sound. At the very least it suggests that I drowned the cat to fill my plate.)

Having shot Portia, I logged off. When I returned later on, I was able to hit The Deck and snag the gift shoes at Maitreya. I wanted to make an African-American pinup out of Loica—why the hell not, right?—and the free heels worked perfectly with her ensemble. I attempted to toss Lo into the Chilean sea with no success. A random TP landed her at the heart of a weird sacred grove called Smells in the Crash, and I figured an all-stone environment was at least a step up from water.

All this because I don’t own Photoshop? Maybe that’s a good thing after all.

Just before dawn, a richly dressed woman of questionable repute quietly shuts the door behind her and steps into the deserted road of Bourbon Street. It’s not her own home that she’s leaving.

Although a casual observer might think she is simply nervous about being out alone, the woman’s quick pace actually betrays her desire to quit the town as soon as possible.

More than a hundred years later, her descendant—a lover of vintage clothing and owner of her own home—holidays in New Orleans.

Lately, Schadenfreude and Silent Sparrow have been knocking mine off. Socks, that is. Their whimsical knit stockings have been the highlight of my spring. Here, Portia wears the Summer version of Schadenfreude’s Bawdy Socks, which come in a pack of four pairs colour-keyed to the seasons. Her hair is Timeless Glamour, from Clawtooth, where the half-price sale, continuing until the 25th of April, has forced me to make some tough choices. (For instance, what time of day I will visit the shop or where I will try on the demos.) Timeless Glamour includes the black-feathered colour-change hat and black veil Portia wears here.

Silent Sparrow’s cleverly designed Starbunny Knitty Socks were the perfect Easter hunt prize. If the bunny is too cutesy for you, check out their Animal Crackers line. The exquisite lavender boots are a subscribo gift from G Field. Having looked in vain for an elegant Victorian boot, I can say with certainty that these are a godsend, not least because they are sculpted in one piece. I don’t often cam in for closeups on clothing, but these boots had me perving with the best of them.

Pig out!

Yes, it’s pink. But this is not babysitter pink. This is see-through pink, slinky pink, avant-sleazy pink, in short, Pig pink. (Loica’s not bad, Apatia Hammerer’s clothes just make her look that way.) This past week saw a sale at Pig (now over) and the release of three freebies, including the Guayabera shirt I blogged yesterday and a white version of the same design sent as a gift to the Purveyors of Accidental Love group. This outfit, Darling Baby Seal in Maedb, can be worn with the skirt shown here, with hip stuff only, or as a bodysuit. The back features an antiqued chartreuse ribbon.

Loica and Portia are both wearing the new group gift skin by Belleza. Having not been able to find the last group gift, despite visiting the lagtastic shop three times, I left the group in a huff. But the purple eyeshadow on this skin, and the promise that I could get the skin out of the group notices, lured me back. The darker shades of this skin are exceptionally pretty, too pretty perhaps for Pig pink, which is more louche than it is lovely.

Portia sports the Rosepetal shade of Ambrosia lingerie, which can be worn in several different ways. The stockings are my all-time favourite because they depart from the perfectly symmetrical, straight-topped type that most designers produce. Pig’s stockings also have subtle wrinkles around the knees and ankles, giving them a vintage, pre-elastic look.

Wearing Ambrosia in Black, Portia demos the bodysuit version of the lingerie, which also features a mini-hoopskirt bluntly labeled “gut prim.” I’d like to see that term catch on grid-wide! Portia’s slides are Nonko’s extraordinary Black Cherry Sandals, which feature images of Alice (from Wonderland) carved into the pale wood platform. Again I say, “Curiouser indeed!”

Loica musters her army of body-conscious circus artiste wannabes in Pig’s latest subscribo gift, the Olivia Bodysuit in Rosepetal. Olivia gives good décolletage. But then, so does Belleza’s skin. I have to say that I prefer this open cleavage to the smushed-together boobs version. That tantalizing valley invites exploratory fingers. The closed version makes my avatars’ breasts look (more) fake, almost like balloons that are about to pop.
