Casual glamour

I think of them as “my ladies”—the talented women who send me their creations so that I may share them with you. My ladies have been busy, so Portia is drowning in spring/summer wear, and I have blog posts planned through the end of next week. Yesterday, I showed you h.m.a.e.m’s new mod-inspired slim-fitting slacks. Today, Zib Scaggs of Zibska also recalls the 60s with her striped linen Chloe palazzo pants. In real life, I am short and dumpy but I can wear palazzo pants, so I think of them as the ninth wonder of the world. Zibska’s palazzos are big but sexy because they sit below the waist and curve elegantly around an av’s belly. The Chloe pants come with a coordinating halter top, but I didn’t want Portia to look too bare at this time of year, so she’s wearing a cutout crop top from Ozi. In addition to the aqua version shown here, the Chloe outfit is available in lime, white and gray renditions. One last note for today: Portia is wearing Margot, one of Glam Affair’s affordable skins for May’s Collabor88. I was chuffed to discover that the 288L pack contains the red-lipped glamorous look advertised on the vendor and a “clean” version of the skin, which offers a dewy daytime makeup with a pale lip.

Back on the rack

It’s time once again to slither off to The Gallery Gift Shop and stalk the art. This month, I took a fancy to Gabrielle Swindlehurst’s Doomsday Has Come and Gone, which looks good at any post-earthquake angle. Also at TGGS. Umeboshi offers a tattoo that multiplies your av’s eyes. (Just in case the apocalypse makes no sound.) In addition to pink hair and a silver tunic from the current Collabor88, Portia wears Dilly Dolls boots, a gift in the Twisted Hunt. The HUD gives you the choice of black or white leather as well as subtle variations on the fabric pattern, which is based on the dreaded TH box.
At the Skin Fair, I tried more skins than a hundred snakes could slough. But Nuuna’s Kati was the only one that inspired me to put clothes on Portia and send her back to the sim. Kati is a breath-takingly flawless blank canvas with all the tattoo-layer add-ons you could desire. In addition to crazy-colour lips like blue, orange and black, there are several shades of pink. Tintable eyebrows and a half dozen tintable blush tats allow for personalization. There is also an applier for Lolas Tango tatas, the mere thought of which makes me feel jiggly on my insides. All this costs only 400L. (If there’s a better deal at Skin Fair I will eat snake slough. With fries.) Portia wears the second-lightest of the seven Kati tones, meaning that goths and ghouls should be doing some kind of dance in honour of the first one. Last but not least today, Portia sports Shortcake Sugarplum’s latest creation for TGGS, the Vegas-worthy Diamond Spades Lashes. I have made special requests for diamond-spade pasties and piercings and a full deck of pornographic playing cards. But I do that every month.

(Under)statement

It’s sad to see Kyoot go. Saeya Nanda participated in Fifty Linden Friday and in Collabor88, so I have been able to collect quite a few of her pieces. When I think of Kyoot, I think of cleavage. I’m not kidding. Ms. Nanda shows off an av’s assets in a way that is softly sexy rather than flashy. For today’s post, I accessorized one of Kyoot’s understated Whitehaven dress with a new statement necklace from Zibska. It’s an array of slim bamboo branches, appearing substantial from afar and delicate up close. The different textures combine closely related colours: if you blow up this pic you will see that the coffee texture juxtaposes brown with green. The other texture options include black, green and indigo. The necklace is also resizable.

Sweet up front, the A/D/E kneehigh boots from R2 turn surprisingly sexy in the back.

Free and easy

Gotta love free sex. I mean clothes. Free clothes that are sexy. Today Portia shows off hunt gifts from Violator. The jewellery set, a gift for the Candy Cane Hunt, is unisex and not modifiable, so the collar is a bit large. No matter: it’s s a ruby-studded whip, my dears, and the business end swings in response to your av’s every breath. Cheap is almost as good as free (sex), and this fur coat from !.RR.! is only 100L at Frost.

I have been recycling. Not that I’m not buying. I just feel like drawing on what I’ve collected over the years. Portia has an extensive wardrobe and a storehouse of props. This old gift pose box by modd.g. is a real treasure. It set a tantalizing mood for today’s shoot.

I GIMPed a hundred little white lines and some stubborn shadows. And some misshapen thighs. Oh dear. Don’t trust anything you see in any photo ever. (If that’s not a disclaimer I don’t know what is.)

The power of no

Some violence against women and girls is overt, immediate and terrifying. Unfortunately, much of it is covert and pernicious. For instance, I have a friend who once accepted a ride home from a man she found creepy because she didn’t want to offend him. And she didn’t want to take the subway alone at night. In the event, nothing happened. Not until I jumped up and down and flapped my arms and said “No. No. No. Say no. Sometimes you must say no.” Violence against women proliferates because we live in patriarchal cultures. Here in North America, my friend can’t say no because she is reminded a dozen times a day that pleasing men is the key to her welfare. It’s a very good idea to demand that governments around the world make and enforce laws that protect women and girls from violence. But we also need to raise awareness about the root of the problem, which is male domination of women. To put it in the worst possible terms: we don’t signify unless we are prey. If we recognize this, each one of us can combat the oppression that legitimates violence, and threats of violence, in all its forms. We don’t need to depend only on the government and the police for safety. We can also depend on each other. And we can harness the power of NO.

Bank robbery not required

I couldn’t find New Mexico on the grid, so I decided the wild west would have to work with the irresistible palette and creations of the Santa Fe collection at Collabor88. Last month, it seemed to me that too many items were priced at 188L and higher. This month felt more like the orgies I remember from the past because the loveliest items are priced at 88L. A girl can take home a handful of the fab furs from (fd) and a big bag of bodysuits from The Sea Hole without going broke.

Allegory Malaprop of Schadenfreude is fast becoming my fave footwear designer. This month, the lucky Collabor88 shopper—female or male—can take home the multi-part colour-change version of the new Amargosa boot for only 488L.
