21st century exodus

I have this mesmerizing metallic dress by Aliza Karu of [AD] Creations. I style it with some futuristic hair by Eshi Otawara. The dress falls to the knee and the dreads inch past it. It’s a swelegant combo and I’m excited to shoot it. I get one medium shot and Exodus crashes. I get a low-res test shot of the entire ensemble—including some boots I picked up on sale at SLink—and Exodus crashes. I log in while watching TV and Exodus crashes. I walk and chew gum at the same time and Exodus crashes. I coordinate my blouse with my pants and Exodus crashes. I eat meat and rice at the same meal and Exodus crashes. Like a little bitch. (I do not care for that phrase, but it fits.) It doesn’t want me making connections.
The next day I decide to make my pics extra spacey. I get one closeup of Portia on a fcking machine at Necronom VI and guess what? Okay, I don’t need to read the manual to know what to do. With Exodus, I mean, not the fcking machine. Stay focused on the fashion, people. Days later I finally get a chance to reinstall Exodus. I do it clean. Exodus crashes four times while my inventory loads. I backtrack to a version so primitive that it has no height offset. The thought of slidering to High and enabling Deferred Rendering sends me scurrying for my teddy bear. Which is long gone. I fear I may try to cuddle one of you if I go inworld again. Braille to the night

It’s been a bad week for brains. They’ve been overtaxed. Now that I can feel my grey matter returning to its usual spongey and sproingy state, I am once again able to blog. The last day of the Fantasy Faire, an event raising money for cancer research, is Sunday April 28th. So you still have time to bounce over to The Plastik’s pavilion to buy Aikea Rieko’s new Draziirah skin. Draziirah has to be shot in bright light to show off the weirdly cracked chocolatey skin. The skin features a full-body vine tattoo which is sold in ten different colours, including silver, green, red, yellow, blue and purple. Portia is wearing Draziirah in one of the greens, Anjuna, which I’ve tarted up with HoD’s Lovely Disarray face tattoo and Electro Blue Neon Punk earrings. This is a brand new item available at The Gallery Gift Shop till mid-May.
Each Draziirah skin pack features a plain version of the skin and some extra mystical tats. I’ve used tats from two skins, Anjuna and Silver, to decorate Anorak’s beautiful bod. In addition to the elf ears shown here, the Drazira skin pack includes glowing eyes. Anorak’s classy Wasabi Pills hair, Erika, is also available at Fantasy Faire. This version of The Plastik’s Vexed dress was a gift, but there are plenty more patterns to choose from in the mainstore.

Bunny don’t play dat

I am a dyed-in-the-egg fan of easter. (As a secular, chick-hugging, basket-filling rite of spring.) But Portia has had one too many hollow chocolate treats. Get too close to her this Sunday and she’ll give you an earful about the eggsploitation of hens. Portia’s lavender mesh corset is from Etchaflesh, the store where corsets go to be born. Select styles offer regular sizes and busty versions in one pack. There are no appliers involved in the busty versions. Each size of the bübs-friendly version boasts the same DD-size cups. As large as the cups look, they could not accommodate Ms. Capelo’s Lolas until I’d downsized them from watermelons to smaller watermelons.
I suspect some of you are too young to remember Homey D. Clown.

Bunneh Brickworks Kawashima is an SL blogger and one of my sweetest Flickr friends, but she is also a bad influence. In a good way. This week, Bunneh is shooting a series of photos featuring public nudity. I had to see if I could do what she does. (These two pics will have to last a whole week, so look at them slowly. Or frequently.) I admit that while shooting these pics I was afraid that I would be caught and banned from my fave sim. So I appreciate the risky thrill of public nudity. At the very same time that I enjoyed doing something wrong, however, I also felt the rightness of the beauty of the naked human body, of the SL creators’ imaginative ways of enhancing that beauty, and of my own effort to create an erotic image rather than just a nude shot. I had to shoot many vanilla pics and many upper-body images before I was absorbed—or committed—enough to find a sexier pose and show Portia’s pudendum. If we are easily shocked by erotic imagery, it is because we are too distanced from the naked body rather than too close. Our determination to keep the body, and sex, private is a symptom of our inability to embrace the body in its erotic aspects. (Don’t get me started on body-as-bourgeois-private-property. That way lies Marx.) Having said this, I did decide to censor the pic with some soap bubbles. If you want to see the uncensored version, you will need a Flickr account with preferences set to see restricted images.
In addition to Bunneh’s example, I was inspired by Umazuma Metaluna’s new Lolas Tango appliers for The Skinnery. These are the sexiest nips on the grid, their appeal to the fingers as strong as their appeal to the eye. Ms. Metaluna has done appliers for old skins as well as new, so customers aren’t forced to abandon the old skins as obsolete. She is putting her customer first. This I like.

I’ll get ahead

I wanted to call this post “Suck it, Armani,” but I wasn’t sure that creator Nevery Lorakeet would appreciate it. (Trendy curses don’t travel well.) Jamira is the newest ensemble from Les Petits Details. It features Ms. Lorakeet’s signature combination of a sober blouse and extravagant skirt, this one in black netting. The pieces can be bought separately in world, but not on Marketplace, where only the whole outfit is on offer. There are two variations on the ensemble, each with a different fabric for the jacket (with optional buttons). One skirt is a washed green and the other a worn brown.

Cece is a dramatic new avatar from Jesylilo. The pack includes a slim shape (not shown) and three makeups with blazing brows. In twenty-five years of following fashion, I’ve seen several attempts to launch the bushy brow trend, which never catches on. One of the most beautiful Steven Meisel photos ever run by American Vogue depicted a naturally bushy-browed brunette in all her glory. She was never heard from again. (And I don’t mean Arizona Muse. This was well before she was born.) Do note Portia’s elegant piercing from ellabella, which features crosses where dimples ought to be. It fit right out of the box, which is rare for piercings on Portia.

Ever notice that your av’s most expensive shoes always get hidden under skirts? Not this time: one of them escaped.
