There’s nothing in this post that isn’t kinky. (The shoes, for instance, are denim.) So don’t hit that link if you’re working for Hobby Lobby.
A while back, I stopped doing nudes and pictures of BDSM ensembles. I was frustrated. I couldn’t get Pleisure on blog feeds. On Flickr, I have to consign any pics with boobage to a circle in purgatory, from which said pics cannot be added to a lot of groups. (Hey hello love ya to the fashion groups that do allow nudity!) I decided that if my job is to promote the works sent to me by my beloved sponsors, I have to keep my av covered and sexless. But I can hardly maintain that position when a large portion of the SL community needs to know that ballet boots are now beautiful. Thanks in part to Voshie Paine of La Petite Morte, whose colourful laced satin boots are the highlight of Genre’s current round of BDSM attire. Did you know that “la petite morte” is a poetic euphemism for orgasm? The “little death” of pleasurable self-extinction.
I’ve been waiting to see what mesh could do for art deco dresses in SL. Let’s face it, prim panels stuck on the hips of an av in a tight system layer dress do not successfully simulate 20s tunics or the slinky siren dresses of the 1930s. Check out this month’s Genre for Senzafine’s mesh gown—shown here in black and also available in brown—and for a couple of mesh takes on shorter dresses. Genre is also offering gorgeous Art Deco jewels.
Honestly, I tried to add smoke to that cigarette but all the brushes I have just add digital line drawings where smoke should be. Portia’s Essences skin is one of the Noodles gacha skins at The Chapter Four.
If you’re curious what mesh can do for traditional Japanese clothing, which has also long suffered from awkward prim skirts and sleeves, check out the Yukata Festival, which runs to the end of the month at the Kyoto Bakumatsu sim. Most of the creators have demos, and you’ll be excited to discover that there’s quite a variety of mesh yukata templates, some of them better than others. I was tempted most by the ones from Sakka’s Studio. Portia’s yukata from Nonko is actually a Lucky Board win. There are quite a few boards at the festival, so you can kit yourself out for free. And if you’re not patient enough for LBs but are strapped for cash, you should check out the 77L offerings at the scary Tanabata mystery thing.
There’s nothing quite like Nonko prints. This one combines snails and mushrooms (I think they’re mushrooms) with images from Alice in Wonderland. The obi is covered in cats. And there’s a cat-face fascinator for those of you who have run out of creepy mask accessories. Gotta love Contraption in a feminine mood.

Over the past year I’ve made several references to the inevitable, premature end of my career as a scholar. For years I was powerless to do anything about it because I was powerless to do anything, period. I’ve been given a reprieve by the uni, I’m back not just to writing but to writing fluently, and I feel strong. I was lucky enough to find a wonderful therapist: if I have someone in my corner I am more than able to fight the shit that’s keeping me down. But I’m certain that my recovery is due mostly to the antidepressants, which I should have started on years ago. Why didn’t I? Because lying on the couch unable to do my own work and spending less and less time doing anything for classes felt like a normal reaction to several awful life experiences and to the disappointment of being resented by students and discounted by many members of the college (though not by the people in my actual department). I also didn’t think I was actually depressed because the depression I’d experienced in my twenties came in the form of sadness, not inactivity. Crying every day was a sign that something was wrong. Given the way my life had been going over the past five years, it seemed entirely appropriate for me to be the human equivalent of the boulder that seals a tomb. I don’t think I ever truly believed the claim that when people are depressed they don’t know it or don’t know the extent of it. I believe it now. Does this sound like some dumb testimonial? I could say more, but I won’t. There’s one last thing that I need to write and hope to recall if things go badly again: when I am a valued member of a wonderful community, I do pretty fucking well. Being part of a wretched community that conspires actively to distribute quicksand-like suffering in a dreadful inversion of egalitarian principles? I go under.
On the fashion front, things are looking up with the opening of Genre, a fantasy maven’s dream, where I picked up the most flattering skin Voshie Paine has ever done for La petite morte. There are three makeups in one lovely skin tone, with elf ears and Lolas Tango appliers included. Each is only 100L. (I die.) The dress Portia wears here is a 70L reopening goodie from Violent Seduction’s outpost on the Cupcake sim. Finally, [e] (elikatira) is having a 70% off hairdo sale. (It’s supposed to be a retirement sale, but everything seems to be discounted.) Don’t be flummoxed if a mouse-over shows the usual price of the hair packs. When you click to buy you get the discount price.
