Fashion for Life ends this coming Sunday, March 17, 2013. I don’t know why you aren’t out dropping a mere 250L on this slinky floral number from Lucia Genesis of World’s End Garden. Or at the very least admiring some ginormous ancient male bods. (I confess to finding Zeus most attractive. First, he’s lit like an old-timey movie-star. Second, dude owns a throne. Third, a roomy lap and a divine hand give a girl ideas.)

Tropical cool

I like to do a resort post in the dead of winter. Instead of bathing suits, I’m featuring Indyra Originals’ mesh Memoire skirt, which comes in packs of four variations for only 295L. Man up

The offerings for the new round of Euphoria’s Limited Bazaar are so fantastic that I wanted to call this post “Fu*k yes.” The theme is menswear. Portia’s avant-gardey suit from E-Clipse and her colour-blocked coat from Diram are only two of the stylish, discounted buys. Remember that Limited Bazaar features limited quantities. If you want these, go as soon as you finish reading every precious word of this post.

Lilo Glom of JesyLiLo is doing two fabulous skins for winter events. This is Gül Buz, which will be available at the Frost Fair as of December 12th. When I slipped on this skin, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Gül Buz is a sophisticated and polished beauty. On the other hand, Portia’s hair, Valerie 2, is wonderfully disheveled, courtesy MissAllSunday Lemon of Wasabi Pills. Valerie 2 is the sequel to a neatly coiffed version, and both are available at the new Collabor88.

Zima, the other lovely new skin from JesyLiLo, is available until December 15 at The Winter Fair. For Zima, Ms. Glom has designed glossy lipsticks in a range of colours that cover bold and pale looks. Portia’s mesh eyes are new from Clemmm. The haunting periwinkle shade is speckled with white lights.

I saw a coat like this in a real-life ad and hoped against hope that I’d be able to buy it in SL. Thank you, Diram! Take note of Portia’s multi-colour boots, which are a Paperbag item at the Singer Icon Fair, until December 13th. The pack also provides a version with silver toes, and the boots are available in other colours.

Needs some shelter

Portia discovered some depressing rain at the DQ Maze, where a player may win prizes if she tries out the bed and the harp. There’s also a movie theatre showing a wonderfully morbid cartoon. Waiting in vain for another three-prim zombie, Portia models some fall steals: her Reckless Abandon coat is only 55L at this week’s fi*fridays; and her !gO! skirt is only 90L at the current Perfect Wardrobe. Portia’s sophisticated Bag 0320 is a new mesh release from h.m.a.e.m, and it comes in black and rain-grey shades as well as the mokka shade shown here.

Anorak missed her bedtime and sees her skin sizzle in the still-strong sun of fall. Her drop-hem skirt is part of Sakide’s Huntress outfit for The Dirty Turkey Hunt. I couldn’t find New Mexico on the grid, so I decided the wild west would have to work with the irresistible palette and creations of the Santa Fe collection at Collabor88. Last month, it seemed to me that too many items were priced at 188L and higher. This month felt more like the orgies I remember from the past because the loveliest items are priced at 88L. A girl can take home a handful of the fab furs from (fd) and a big bag of bodysuits from The Sea Hole without going broke.

Allegory Malaprop of Schadenfreude is fast becoming my fave footwear designer. This month, the lucky Collabor88 shopper—female or male—can take home the multi-part colour-change version of the new Amargosa boot for only 488L.

Cut and paste

I wasn’t paying much attention to Paper Couture, which I assumed was beyond my budget, until I saw the orange Spotted Pantsuit. I love orange, and now that the flat Hallowe’en orange and yellowish autumnal oranges are upon us, I am feeling especially attached to tangerine and melon, to neon orange, and to screaming orange (if that’s what it’s called). Among SL fashion bloggers, those I admire most are the mix-masters, the women who can take a dozen disparate elements and pull them together beautifully. Uncannily, even. So, I bought the reasonably priced PC pantsuit and Chantkare’s orange Leopsi dress, a steal from The Dressing Room Blue, and I played exquisite corpse with Portia. (F’d Up has her looking all dead dolly.)

In Gone with the Wind, scheming Scarlett O’Hara reached for the drapes when she needed a new dress and emerged drowning in velvet, with a big tassel hanging off the end of her hat. In a skit on The Carol Burnett Show, the comedienne did the same, only she neglected to take out the curtain rod. For Lo’s outfit, I did a Scarlett Burnett, massaging the pouf sleeve from the Leopsi dress into a headwrap. Hey, it’s better than a bustle. (And this time I remembered to make a copy first!)

Somewhat gold dancers

Today’s post is dedicated to pale golds. These dresses are rich rather than flashy. Here, Portia wears the Tudors mini-dress from Rotten Toe’s Lucky Board. The cut of the gown and the satin textures are exquisite, and I especially appreciate the black net wrapped around the bubble skirt. It’s an unnecessary, and thus oh-so luxurious, detail. The dress set me thinking of all the women who suffered as Henry VIII’s wives, so, in addition to an anachronistic but much-deserved cigarette, I gave this Tudor woman tear-smeared makeup by Tyranny Designs. She could be Katherine Parr dancing on the king’s grave.

Dancing alone in a dark parlour to music only she can hear, Portia reminds me of the eccentric Elfine in Cold Comfort Farm, one of my favourite films. Portia’s dress is a recent Midnight Madness gift from Wishbox. The delicate colour is indefinable, looking by turns pale green and pale gold. Portia’s hair is a collaboration between Reek and Tiny Bird: you can spell out a message with the beads of the headband. If you picked up Tiny Bird’s gift from Second Style Island, but haven’t unpacked it (tsk!), you have your very own copy of Sleepless in a different shade.

Aria’s Llyra dress floats Portia out of the ballroom and into the London night. If the fog rolls in, her grey-black dress will disappear, save for the elegant green-gold tracery that embellishes bodice and hem. This gown is one of the gasp-provoking treats I receive as a member of Designer Showcase Network.

Change your spots, part I

When Portia found herself drowning in Herby Loire’s new freebie gown Jungle, Loica offered to pose on the condition that we move the shoot to Slaughter City, where black buildings glow green and the dramatic interior lighting is…to die for. (Was that an evil chuckle I heard?)

Loica played as nice as she could with her bunny co-stars from Scribble, though she did toss off that old line about leopards and spots and the routine deaths of prey animals on fashion shoots. I have to keep these rabbits alive at least through Easter, so Loica is under lock and key.
