Braille to the night

It’s been a bad week for brains. They’ve been overtaxed. Now that I can feel my grey matter returning to its usual spongey and sproingy state, I am once again able to blog. The last day of the Fantasy Faire, an event raising money for cancer research, is Sunday April 28th. So you still have time to bounce over to The Plastik’s pavilion to buy Aikea Rieko’s new Draziirah skin. Draziirah has to be shot in bright light to show off the weirdly cracked chocolatey skin. The skin features a full-body vine tattoo which is sold in ten different colours, including silver, green, red, yellow, blue and purple. Portia is wearing Draziirah in one of the greens, Anjuna, which I’ve tarted up with HoD’s Lovely Disarray face tattoo and Electro Blue Neon Punk earrings. This is a brand new item available at The Gallery Gift Shop till mid-May.
Each Draziirah skin pack features a plain version of the skin and some extra mystical tats. I’ve used tats from two skins, Anjuna and Silver, to decorate Anorak’s beautiful bod. In addition to the elf ears shown here, the Drazira skin pack includes glowing eyes. Anorak’s classy Wasabi Pills hair, Erika, is also available at Fantasy Faire. This version of The Plastik’s Vexed dress was a gift, but there are plenty more patterns to choose from in the mainstore.

Back on the rack

It’s time once again to slither off to The Gallery Gift Shop and stalk the art. This month, I took a fancy to Gabrielle Swindlehurst’s Doomsday Has Come and Gone, which looks good at any post-earthquake angle. Also at TGGS. Umeboshi offers a tattoo that multiplies your av’s eyes. (Just in case the apocalypse makes no sound.) In addition to pink hair and a silver tunic from the current Collabor88, Portia wears Dilly Dolls boots, a gift in the Twisted Hunt. The HUD gives you the choice of black or white leather as well as subtle variations on the fabric pattern, which is based on the dreaded TH box.
At the Skin Fair, I tried more skins than a hundred snakes could slough. But Nuuna’s Kati was the only one that inspired me to put clothes on Portia and send her back to the sim. Kati is a breath-takingly flawless blank canvas with all the tattoo-layer add-ons you could desire. In addition to crazy-colour lips like blue, orange and black, there are several shades of pink. Tintable eyebrows and a half dozen tintable blush tats allow for personalization. There is also an applier for Lolas Tango tatas, the mere thought of which makes me feel jiggly on my insides. All this costs only 400L. (If there’s a better deal at Skin Fair I will eat snake slough. With fries.) Portia wears the second-lightest of the seven Kati tones, meaning that goths and ghouls should be doing some kind of dance in honour of the first one. Last but not least today, Portia sports Shortcake Sugarplum’s latest creation for TGGS, the Vegas-worthy Diamond Spades Lashes. I have made special requests for diamond-spade pasties and piercings and a full deck of pornographic playing cards. But I do that every month.

Satisfaction

Last week I dedicated a post to Shortcake Sugarplum. She once told me that she liked my posts because they have a beginning, a middle and an end. (In that order. My posts don’t emulate Godard. Or the Portlandia parody of Godard.) It was good to know that someone felt satisfied by something I do. Especially because Ms. Sugarplum has long been satisfying my desire for elaborate eyelashes with her creations for Lucky #7. This is only fitting since she was the one who aroused that desire in the first place. When Ms. Sugarplum went on eyelash hiatus, I got to feeling that Portia was naked and exposed. Apparently this is a common reaction to Ms. Sugarplum’s phases of slothful indifference to the needs of our avatars’ eyelids. Think about it: without a thick slather of lashes an avi exposes her eyeballs to the harmful rays of the sun. And misses out on rare opportunities to bat something at attractive men. (Pretending to laugh at a hot guy’s jokes is even more painful when one’s eyeballs are sunburnt.) Luckily, Ms. Sugarplum is back to work. And for some strange reason, she named her latest pair of peeper keepers after my blog. All is forgiven, SS. For now.

The fear of gold

I was about to hit the pay button for Paperbag’s silver Slique unitard when something inside me snapped. Or creaked. It was more like a creak. I realized that it was time to give up on the safety of silver and confront my longstanding fear of intense gold.

In real life, were I to wear even a subtle gold, it would look like a piece of Hanukkah geld had sprouted a whitehead. But this is not real life, and Portia doesn’t look like she needs to be squeezed (more).

May your days be merry and bright. And may all your holidays be hella tight. If Portia is looking a little too sexy this Christmas eve, it’s because she finally made it onto Santa’s third list. There’s one for good boys and girls, there’s one for bad boys and girls, and there’s one for very naughty adults. Portia’s just heard the sleigh land on the roof. She can’t wait for Santa to slide down her chimney.

This sh*t just got real

Here’s a fantasy. This is what I would wear if I owned a chic boutique in Paris and life was so perfect that cats and birds could hang out together without getting into an argument about Léos Carax’s latest film. In this fantasy, my outfit consists of a mesh hippie blouse from Shine by ZD and a wearable demo dress from Solita. There’s also fur from Bliss Couture, which is running a sale on fur and ruffles until December 16th. The cuffs Portia wears here come with a matching poncho.

Here’s a reality. I’ve just gone through the toughest four months of my life and things may get worse before they get better. I don’t actually cry on my knees under a table. I prefer to stand, bend over and hang upside down till the rush of blood to my head distracts me from the despair. (If I called it yoga you’d try it yourself instead of thinking I’m weird. Which I am.) When I look at the SL feeds, I occasionally come across a post from someone who has been suffering from depression, may have attempted suicide, and may feel terribly alone. One of the wonderful things about SL is the anonymity that allows us to acknowledge pain without the risks that come with real-life declarations. I keep this blog a secret from all but my closest friend, so it remains a place where I can be some of the things I am not allowed to be in my daily life. I can, for example, play with a pair of giant bübs. I can also be honest about emotional pain. I can’t claim to have caught every post SLers have written about depression and despair, but I want those who have written such posts to know that I’m grateful for your honesty. I wish you all the strength and support you need to get you through the dark periods of your lives.

Stylish trespass

I mentioned last week that I’ve been reading Angela Carter’s collection of feminist fairy tales, The Bloody Chamber. When it came time to blog the lovely Eleonora ensemble by World’s End Garden for The Gallery Gift Shop, I couldn’t help thinking of the many stories that begin with an invitation to enter a seemingly deserted mansion or castle. It’s a very bad idea to accept the invitation, even if one is hungry and tired and can’t get one’s car out of a ditch. And yet not one of Carter’s protagonists pulls out her iPhone and says “Yeah, no, there’s no fuc*ing way I’m going in there. I mean, ew! There has to be a Starbucks close by.” By entering the mansion, each damsel dooms herself to be forever transformed and, sometimes, happily enslaved. (A cute guy falls victim to a loathsome vampire with bad housekeeping habits, but it is she who is transformed by the encounter.)

I found this shockingly unnatural bondage horse when I teleported to World’s End Garden. I couldn’t resist playing. I’m very aware that today’s images of bondage seem to contradict yesterday’s post about ending violence against women. Although my experience with bondage is limited, I have to say that I appreciate the way it can theatricalize the power imbalance between men and women. This theatricalization makes it impossible to pretend that the imbalance, which is an unavoidable socio-political fact, does not colour the relationship. Carter’s introduction to The Sadeian Woman makes this point with the kind of feminist fire that has me yearning for the late 1970s. Oh bondage up yours.

I suddenly had a longing for the Belle Epoque, so I paired the mesh Eleonora corset with a long straight skirt by GOK. There are three corset colours to choose from: blue, purple and black.

It’s hard to believe that this is my 901st post on Pleisure. I tallied up the number of days I’ve devoted to this hobby, and although the total of 76 is astonishing, it’s much lower than the number I’ve wasted watching TV.
