So wearable

I love a wearable demo! AnaLee Balut and her real-life daughter ShuShu Congrejo offer wearable demos for their mesh releases for ALB and ShuShu, respectively. A wearable demo gives one a clear sense of how the fabric will look and move. A blank demo that shows only the shape and fit of the garment or shoe is much less informative and far less tempting. I did a quick search of Marketplace and found wearable demos from Duh! and from Attic. Another creator who does them is Nene Flores of [Solita], and she has just issued a new mini-skirt for us to try out. (Her shop is also beautifully decorated, a good place to take photos.)

Sometimes my av looks pretty. Today it’s thanks to an Xmas gift skin from Swallow and hunt-gift eyes from Epic.

This sh*t just got real

Here’s a fantasy. This is what I would wear if I owned a chic boutique in Paris and life was so perfect that cats and birds could hang out together without getting into an argument about Léos Carax’s latest film. In this fantasy, my outfit consists of a mesh hippie blouse from Shine by ZD and a wearable demo dress from Solita. There’s also fur from Bliss Couture, which is running a sale on fur and ruffles until December 16th. The cuffs Portia wears here come with a matching poncho.

Here’s a reality. I’ve just gone through the toughest four months of my life and things may get worse before they get better. I don’t actually cry on my knees under a table. I prefer to stand, bend over and hang upside down till the rush of blood to my head distracts me from the despair. (If I called it yoga you’d try it yourself instead of thinking I’m weird. Which I am.) When I look at the SL feeds, I occasionally come across a post from someone who has been suffering from depression, may have attempted suicide, and may feel terribly alone. One of the wonderful things about SL is the anonymity that allows us to acknowledge pain without the risks that come with real-life declarations. I keep this blog a secret from all but my closest friend, so it remains a place where I can be some of the things I am not allowed to be in my daily life. I can, for example, play with a pair of giant bübs. I can also be honest about emotional pain. I can’t claim to have caught every post SLers have written about depression and despair, but I want those who have written such posts to know that I’m grateful for your honesty. I wish you all the strength and support you need to get you through the dark periods of your lives.

The alt will out

Meet Loica. She’s the alt. Portia and I hate her because she’s beautiful. I signed up for SL in 2008 and then never logged on, so when I went back a year later and couldn’t recall the account details, I needed to create Portia. When I remembered how to access the first account, I decided to create two different avatars and play them both until one emerged victorious. Like Portia, Loica is my creation. She started as a grotesque type, a cartoon image of Medea, actually. But I quickly discovered that truly unconventional looks were not condoned in SL, so I made Loica into a sexbomb. Through her, I got to be gorgeous for the first time in my life; and that was indeed a pleasurable experience.

From the start, Loica was just so big and bodacious that she wasn’t convincing as a sub, which was the role that I wanted to play in sex games. While Portia has her domme side, she is not as aggressive as Loica, who seems incapable of tenderness. (Yes, it was very weird to find my psyche splitting this way. I hesitate to invent a male alt. He will either rob senior citizens or write sappy poetry.) Portia developed further because she met a good playmate. When I introduced him to Loica, he said she was cuter than Portia, and that shook me hard. I hadn’t yet distinguished myself from Portia, so I took it personally. Even though Loica was also mine, she was not me. (I would never battle the big bunnies in Happy Mood’s snowglobe!)

Loica’s figure handicaps her: she only looks well in sexy getups or adventure costumes. This outfit, which I created around Christmas, the last time Loica was out of the box, combines items from a dozen sources, many of them free. (Why do alts have to do without money?) The key elements are: bodysuit by Je Republic, fur by Bliss Couture, hair by, boots a hunt gift by Duh!, snowflake tattoo by K&L came with their winter neko outfit, and skin the stunning Christmas group gift by Curio. Both my avatars prefer a red lip to pale pink. And neither wants to give up the amethyst eyes that came straight out of Freebieville! That much they have in common. (Actually, those eyes turn out to be by Dime Piece.)
