Working for the Man (NSFW)

Mochi. That’s what my ex-wife used to call me. Cold sweet. Damn I miss that Droide. Especially around quitting time.

Work’s not so bad most nights. I’m not R2 Defense any more but they let me keep the kit. It’s too old to be worth recalling. The boots are rusting…and it turns out you can’t get burger stains off sparkle lycra. Time was I was too fit to eat red meat.

If I’ve got to work, if I’ve got to work to live, why does it have to be for the man? The city is a maze. I get lost on my way to the body chop shop. One time I was furniture teleporting and landed in a place decorated in bright clashing colors. Finally—somewhere I could get proper lost. Then I heard “That is a private rental, vacate immediately and refrain from entering any others.” Who could respond to this typically masculine command? Boss man has all the power. No one can say boo. Hierarchy means I’m never ever saying that I’m sorry.

Tonight I was going to treat myself to the movies. But it was too hard to choose between Barbie and Oppenheimer. Could there be a lesser of billion-dollar evils? I decided to head home. The wind started to whistle. I wished I had a collar I could turn up on a trenchcoat.

My plasma crotch-patch had been feeding me blood all day, keeping me pumped for work. I needed to get home and get out of it. Let some air out of the tires. I stripped everything off and got out my carefully chosen antiques—jewellery, headgear, and the vintage chair, probably a twenty-first-century model roughed up to look more valuable. Settling onto the floor, I remembered the first time I met my Droide ex-wife. She came at me in pieces. Tonight I’m going to think about all the ways she knew how to melt mochi.

Crises at midlife and midnight

Is there a difference between my sudden embrace of kink and anyone else’s midlife crisis? I don’t believe so. I can’t be the only person to regret time lost or wasted, to claw my way out of a moribund state, of years-long depression and more than a decade fearing sex. Over the past year I have become capable not only of “extreme” and “perverse” acts and emotions but of acts and emotions PERIOD. I have rediscovered sociability, friendship and intimate relationships. I leave my house at night to spend time with people. (Weeks of tracking my insomnia show me that I sleep best when I come home from an outing and go straight to bed.) I have the peace of mind and confidence to reconnect with professional peers and my mother. I even started shopping again. Now that I am buying lingerie, sex toys and rope for my dungeon nights, a pair of completely unnecessary brightly striped loafers might seem like a comparatively conservative and practical addition to my wardrobe. (Reader, I purchased them.)

Dual Dido

Jewelry Fair, which opens on September 13, is the place to go if you find yourself lusting for Zib Scaggs’ latest big bad Zibska baubles. Today I decided to break the new Dido set of hat and collar to create two looks. One for haute couture, seen here. One for humiliation, located under the cut. All of Ms. Scaggs’ pieces are colour change, but I gravitate to her charcoal-black because it’s dramatic and I’m moody. I am also a fan of Marni, The Skinnery’s Arcade gacha item, which I’ve seasoned with a generous sprinkling of hot freckles from Milk. If you don’t like your virtual life spicy, don’t venture under the cut.

Strip down, suit up

Time was SLadies wore clothes made of fine soft fabrics that floated around their primitive bodies. Nowadays, they armour up in materials-ready metals, determined not to yield.
I wanted to see how many “primitivist” fantasy items I could throw together before Portia ended up looking like jambalaya (or the Lollapalooza audience). Pay careful attention to Trev, her colour-change necklace from Zibska. It’s menswear, but I figure menswear is for plundering. Also note the high-piled dreads of Iona from Discord Designs. This is a donation item at the <3 Ulaa event, which runs until August 18. I realize these events raise eyebrows as well as funds, so you can make up your own mind. Meanwhile, at 180L per colour pack, this hairdo is a steal. Generally speaking, gacha’s been kicking my av’s ass. All the more reason to wrap it in tin. I was lucky enough to score in quick succession two rare pieces from FDD, but otherwise I’ve just been getting triples of things in mint. Who wages war in mint? No, really, I want to know.

Hats are huge

If you like a fancy-ass hat, the Art in Hats event should be your next stop’n’shop. Anorak is sporting the new Mind Flying hat from Aliza Karu of Angels and Demons. Up top and round back it’s decorated with veiled and chained horns and bound wings. In the front, a slim triangular opening reveals only your av’s mouth. Its black and white folds evoke a nun’s headgear. Which is why your av needs to wear a slogan t-shirt and high-cut shorts—along with a slick of red lipstick. This is the only way to balance the forces of good and hella tight. There are a few awesome freebies hidden in an inner chamber at the event. Out in the open, you will find two free full-perm avatars by Meilo Minotaur and CapCat Ragu. [Thanks to Quan Lavender for the correction on the names!] One is a doll bedecked with roses and the other bears a close resemblance to a head of cabbage. There’s a gorgeous fashion photo of each hat and each one is also available for purchase. Prices for the hats vary widely, and it’s tough to guess which of the buy options will leave you reeling and which will have you squealing.

Charity on the wing

Fantasy Faire doesn’t last long and there are so many sims that one has to shop almost as much as birds have to eat. I forage efficiently by fastening on charity items. Any event that encourages a generous shopper to buy a dozen things in purple is asking for trouble, so I tend to narrow my focus to items that tone that purple down or go off menu. I bought chunky blue sabots at Bliensen + MaiTai, a heart-shaped, red-flowered tree pose prop from Boudoir and the circlet and dress shown here. The elegant Chloris dress from 22769 can be worn with or without sleeves. The 22769 team has outdone itself with this dress, which is available in other colours. They are also offering outsized crowns that make the medieval look modern. (All their items are wonderfully inexpensive.) The lovely and delicate Lys Circlet from The Plastik features a colour-change setting and is also available in dozens of other gem-stones. Another charity item from creator Aikea Rieko is a purple skin with bright-orange body paint. You may have to get it just so you can tremble at the thought of it lurking in your inventory.

Going to the Erotigacha event and hoping for rust sounds like a bad sign for my love life. But I did so want DRD’s rust cuffs and rare rust iron maiden—and I scored on my first two tries. I have to say that this bodysuit from Pr!ck fairly begs for some bushy old-school pubes, but I had none in my inventory. (I wonder why not….) A fascinating full-body tattoo from La Malvada Mujer is my arty make-do.

New ambition

Aikea Rieko of The Plastik has just released her Astrali skin in a range so comprehensive that you can now break up with your lover and be sure to forget them while you frolic among the hundred tones. That’s right: one.hundred. (/me hears the sound of marriages ending) The tones are divided into cool, warm and neutral palettes. You can be any colour of the rainbow. And that rainbow includes plenty of luscious dark skins with overtones of dark green or black cherry. Each skin pack includes several eyeshadows and a browless tat, as well as Ms. Rieko’s signature lip treatments and freckles. All appliers are sold in a separate pack.

Hedy, which is colour, size and shine change, comes with a matching necklace. Hedda opted not to wear it because it was cutting into the chocolate eclairs she stores behind her collar. You can buy the hat and necklace duo alone or, for the same price, as part of the Leticia outfit, which is also new at Fiera.

The future isn’t forever

This is not space travel. This is what happens when your friend forgets to put you on her access list. (And you brought your pudding gun and everything.) There’s a lot to want in this pic and very little time to get it because Futurewave ends at midnight SLT today, February 23rd. The helmet from BFI has a ton of visor options—half of them completely opaque and far more butch than the lady-coloured one Portia wears. The Tinker Tailor boots from Miamai are available in sober shades of black, green and grey, among others. These are truly high-fashion battle boots because the slim ankle makes them perfect for skirts. Last but not least, Pleisure mainstay Zib Scaggs for Zibska gives us pudding without the gun in her Dagmar dress and collar. There is an all-silver version of the dress as well as one in burnt-acid green and cobalt blue. DRD’s Cyber Cables bring the sparks.

This is not a lab for cellular regeneration. This is where bloggers go to regret their Windlight choices. Portia wears the super-cute pants and blouse from DRBC’s Nomi jumpsuit in Fire and Noir, respectively. Underneath, she’s snug as a bug in the red version of the Halcyon spacesuit from Gallactic.
